INGREDIENTS
- 4-5 slices of older bread (white, wholemeal, ciabatta, baguette, or any other bread you have)
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil or melted butter
- 1-2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped or minced (optional)
- 1 teaspoon of dried herbs (e.g., oregano, thyme, rosemary, or Herbes de Provence)
- Salt (to taste)
- Pepper (to taste)
- Parmesan for sprinkling (optional)
PROCEDURE
- 1If using older bread, cut it into smaller cubes (approx. 1-2 cm). If the bread is very hard, you can cut it with a serrated knife.
- 2In a bowl, mix olive oil or melted butter with garlic (if using), dried herbs, salt, and pepper. Add the cut bread cubes and mix well to coat them evenly in the seasoned oil.
- 3Preheat the oven to 180°C. Spread the seasoned bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the croutons are golden and crispy. You can stir them once or twice during baking to ensure even toasting.
- 4After removing from the oven, let the croutons cool slightly. If desired, you can sprinkle them with grated Parmesan while still warm.
