INGREDIENTS
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 12 mini sausages
- 1 teaspoon cream cheese
- 24 whole black peppercorns
- Ketchup
- Mustard
INSTRUCTIONS
- 1Roll out the puff pastry and cut it lengthwise into strips about 1 cm wide. Wrap each sausage individually with the created strips; you will need 2 or three strips per sausage. Remember to leave a space about 0.5 cm wide in approximately one-third of the sausage, which will not be wrapped in puff pastry. This space will form the area for the mummy's eyes.
- 2Arrange the wrapped sausages on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave gaps between the individual sausages on the baking sheet so they don't stick together during baking.
- 3Whisk the egg in a bowl with a fork until the white and yolk are combined.
- 4Brush the prepared sausages with egg and bake in an oven preheated to 200°C. Bake the sausages until the puff pastry is golden brown, which will take approximately 10 minutes.
- 5After removing from the oven, let the 'blind' mummies cool down for a while. Once cooled, add their eyes. The eyes will be placed in the gap you prepared for them when wrapping the puff pastry around the sausage. Using the other end of a spoon, the part you normally hold, scoop a little cream cheese and place it in the eye socket. Decorate each white dollop of cheese with a black peppercorn. Some might find it easier to pick up the cheese with a toothpick or skewer.
- 6For the ketchup spiderweb, pour any desired amount of ketchup into a small bowl, and again, using the opposite end of a spoon or a toothpick dipped in mustard, draw a spiderweb into the ketchup. It requires a little patience, but you will surely succeed.
